2020 Brussels Minor Ball Season - CoVid-19
As we push forward through the coming weeks and months, fastball will not, and should not, be at the forefront of our minds. However, Brussels is a fastball community at heart, and many have approached with questions on the upcoming year. This is what we know to date:
There are to be no organized practices or gatherings under Brussels Minor Ball. I have not submitted our insurance with O.A.S.A., and will not do so until there is a clear path forward for the year. This means that there is no insurance coverage as of right now.
The vision among the various leagues is grim as to whether there will be a fastball season this year. However, there is discussion of some planning for a shortened or modified season, if it is safe to do so for everyone. This may look like a reduced number of regular season games, a handful of tournament weekends, skills clinics, etc...If we get to that point where we can get on the field, we will let you know.
Preliminary team rosters have been set and will be posted shortly. Coaches will not be listed at this time. However, there will still need to be discussion with overagers and Midget team numbers. Only when there is a clear picture that a season will occur, will these discussions happen. All Softball Ontario and Softball Canada coaching and umpire clinics have been suspended indefinitely. Its appears that there will be no clinics, only online tests and registrations for umpires right now. We will assist with this when the time comes.
Brussels Minor Ball will not be cashing any cheques as of right now for the upcoming year. We realize that there may be families in need of additional cash with job uncertainty going forward. Those with cheques from October, will need to change the date on the cheques the they initially provided or provide a new cheque. if a season goes forward. Anyone paying in cash will be reimbursed by cheque from Brussels Minor Ball if required.
We will do our best to keep you updated on any changes going forward. Any questions, please reach out to a member of the executive.
Stay safe everyone, practice social distancing, and we will get back on the diamonds at some point.
Yours in fastball,
James Hickling
